Best out of waste

“Reuse the past, recycle the present and save the future”

Today’s Gen Z can play a vital role in preserving and restoring that, what is here and ours today by learning the importance of ‘Reuse and Recycle’. With this thought in our minds, United International School organized the ‘Best Out of Waste’ Competition on Friday, 09 June, 2023. The objective behind this activity was to develop a love for the environment within the students and use their imaginative skills to create useful and innovative products out of ordinary waste material.

This unique craft follows an eco conscious principle whilst creating objects with utility out of waste material. The competition focused on bringing an understanding among the children about preserving the environment by looking at the longevity of the materials through reusing and recycling. The participants had to hone in on their creative effort, presentation and the utility of the product.

Students displayed their new creations of art and craft by making: a teapot and a cup, hat, paper vase, wall hangings, paper flowers, greeting cards, utility box, toys, paper jewelry and many more.

Incredible ideas were brought to life using day-to-day materials like  newspaper, old CDs, used plastic bottles, ropes, ice cream sticks, bangles, shoe boxes etc. Things we might consider waste in our everyday life were given a new form in a constructive manner creating a plethora of amazing products. This only goes to show that ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’

Integral values like preservation, recycling, conservation, reduce and reuse were inculcated on the young hearts and minds by demonstrating this noble act of caring our environment.
